Mark Asher, a graduate of Virginia Tech University, started Asher Associates Architects in 1993 when his firm completed extensive renovations to Ocean City Yacht Club, Ocean City, New Jersey. He then designed a new clubhouse for Avalon Yacht Club, leading to a successful practice on the Jersey Shore and establishing him as expert in coastal architecture. Numerous hallmark “Asher Houses” grace the streets, bays and beach fronts of some of the most exclusive towns up and down the coast of New Jersey.
Asher’s broad range of experience in design, production and construction administration has expanded to award winning residential and light commercial work in locations ranging from Philadelphia and its suburbs to Virginia, Florida and Maine. Along with a team of talented architects and designers, all projects are produced under Mark’s day-to-day supervision and are given shape through his personal involvement.
Deborah Slaunwhite, AIA, NCARB, joined Asher in 2008 after working in single- and multi-family residential design and historic preservation throughout eastern United States. In 2018, in recognition of her leadership role, she was promoted to Partner and the firm was renamed Asher Slaunwhite Architects.
A graduate of University of Notre Dame School of Architecture, Deborah’s background includes cottage residences for Hurricane Katrina victims, restoration of the Taft Museum of Art 1820s house, and design for affordable housing. Her projects for Asher include multiple residences in Pennsylvania and along the New Jersey coast where her design aesthetic helped broaden the firm’s vocabulary to include more contemporary elements. During her time at Asher, she has increased her leadership in staff management, client relations, and business development. Her even personality, design creativity and management acumen have endeared her to clients, staff and colleagues alike.
